Though the ‘body’ has become something of a commodity in academic discourse within mainstream sociology and anthropology over the past two decades or so, the heterogeneity of this discourse is seldom addressed or clarified. Much of it (but of course not all) takes a cultural constructionist line and therefore tends to focus on socio-cultural representations of the body rather than attempting to address more fundamental issues such as a phenomenology of bodily being, or the exploration of particular aspects of the embodiment of social life. With developments in neuroscience and the increasing dominance of biological models in the explanation of social and cultural life, it seems more important than ever to address critically the philosophical and social-theoretical foundations of differing approaches to the body.

Taking the body seriously is crucial to addressing the interconnectedness of nature and society, of bodily and social realms. In one sense this is a return to core questions posed in an earlier time within philosophical biology, phenomenology, and existentialism, as well as in classical sociological theory such as in the work of Marx and Durkheim, and a closer exegesis of these works is perhaps indicated. But also important is exploring how to ground such perspectives in real phenomena today in a way that takes account of and responds to contemporary science, and what this may accomplish in furthering our understanding of the interconnectedness of bodily and social life.

• Præsentation:

Projektet tager udgangspunkt i et ønske om at tiltrække og fastholde medarbejdere i vidensvirksomheder og en antagelse om, at en attraktiv arbejdsplads er en arbejdsplads, hvor medarbejderne oplever at få ’noget mere’ end blot penge for den tid, de lægger i arbejdet. Projektet ser værdier i et bredere perspektiv ved at fokusere på værdiers betydning som meningsskabende praksis. Forskningens opgave er her at indfri konkrete virksomheders ønske om gennem forskningsmæssig sparring at opnå forståelse af, hvordan værdier vinder konkret fodfæste hos personer, der i deres arbejde og i deres forståelse af virksomhedens formål knytter mening til arbejdet.

Med afsæt i den etablerede forskning i mening, lykke og det gode arbejdsliv og en metodisk dialog med en række medarbejdere og ledere i danske virksomheder søges kortlagt hvordan vidensarbejdere opfatter mening i arbejdslivet og hvordan denne kan indgå som en motivationsfaktor i virksomheders satsning på fremtidig værdiskabelse.

• Projektarbejde:

1. At begribe og komme bag om de ansattes holdninger til, hvad der for dem at se gør en virksomheds profil, produkt og politik særlig værdifuld og meningsfuld
2. At undersøge arbejdspladsen som social og fysisk ramme for mening i arbejdslivet at undersøge samspillet mellem arbejdsliv og andre meningsgivende aspekter af livet, for derigennem at forstå, hvorfor nogen bliver på arbejdspladsen, mens andre forlader den.
